I’m a plein-air painter, painting with the color palette of an impressionist. When I work I imagine that I am painting the color of the light in the scene, not the actual objects themselves. I apply the pastels to prepared sanded paper which I mount on board. With the paper mounted I have great flexibility holding and moving it around as I work on the painting. I never use and easel to paint. I use color as an impressionist, like Claude Monet or Vincent Van Gogh, juxtaposing brilliant complimentary colors and allowing the eye to blend them into the color of light. I take every opportunity to be outside painting. in the beautiful countryside of the Delaware River Valley.
